Optimist Program - March 15, 2012.

Karen Hiller, Topeka City Council, Representative for the Downtown Area, proved to be a very dynamic speaker as she spoke of here aspirations for the downtown are as well as the city as a whole. She in serving her first term on the Council after serving on numerous local and community boards and councils for the past 35 years. She complete the Leadership Topeka Class in 2004. One of her desires in running for office was and still is to make a difference for Topeka.

 JIM MCCOLLOUGH… current  Executive Director of Topeka Center for Peace and Justice gave a most interesting presentation regarding the aims and objectives of the organization.  Established over 26 years ago one of its initial objectives was to try and counter the”… the hateful speech and demonstrations of the Phelps.”  More recently the organization is informing the public about the condition existing in Topeka and nationwide, regarding Human Trafficking.  He also shared with us one of the organizations success’s, that being their summer camps for young people. For $50 an individual or organization can help send a young person to camp.

UNITED WAY…update will be our program this Friday.  Ryan Tabor, from United Way will be our guest speaker.

 FLIP THEM PANCAKES…and pass the butter and syrup, while piling on the flapjacks, sausage and all the other goodies!  Saturday, April 28th will be our next Pancake and baked goods sale. Tickets will be forth coming.

Rod O won the ticket split – Bill Gannaway, number 3, name was the badge draw – Leland Denton won the attendance list shout out.
