Scotch
A
lady goes to the bar and orders a Scotch with two drops of water. As the
bartender fixes her drink, she said, “I’m on this cruise to celebrate my 80th
birthday, which is today.”
The bartender said, “Well, since it is your birthday, let me buy you this
drink.”
After the old lady had finished her drink, the woman to her right said, “I would
like to buy you a drink, too.”
The old gal said, “Thanks,” and again told the bartender, “Scotch with two drops
of water.”
This scenario happened again; and, after fixing the drink, the bartender asked,
“Ma’am. I’m dying of curiosity. Why the Scotch with only two drops of water?”
The old lady replied, “Sonny, when you are my age, you’ve learned how to hold
your liquor. Holding your water, however, is a whole other issue.”

Program Chair, Rowland Hyle introduced the speaker for today, Rep. Lynn Jenkins. Rep Jenkins is a 5th Generation Kansan who grew up at Holton. Before being elected as the Representative of the 2nd Congressional District, she served a State Representative, State Senator and State Treasurer. She had an interesting and dramatic graphical presentation showing the financial status of the U.S., beginning about 40 years ago and going way out into the future if the present trend continues. Following the presentation, she answered a number of questions.

President Ron announced that training for those who will be working at the Discovery Center will be Oct. 8th. He also noted that the Pancake Breakfast Tickets had been handed out or sent out. It was also reported that Clayton is still weak and would be absent from club meeting for awhile. Installation will be held on October 7th and four new members will be inducted. Junior indicated that Mary Jean underwent knee surgery last Monday. He also indicated that an effort was being made to organize another trip to D.C. for veterans. Nancy confirmed that a bake sale would be included with the Pancake Breakfast.
Program Chairman, Rowland Hyle introduced today's speaker, Dr. Walter Menninger. In his presentation, Dr. Menninger pointed out that there was a stigma about discussing mental health problems. He used as an example the fact that people readily mentioned Clayton and Mary Jane but would be much more refrained in mentioning someone's depression or other mental health problems. The challenge is: how to overcome this stigma.
Dr. Menninger has long been involved with the leadership of the Boy Scouts. He has been involved in developing a guide for Scout Leaders who must deal with children with social problems such as Autism.
