Don't admit it if you went to the Top of the Tower for a meeting on August 19th, since there was no meeting. There were approximately 30 members, spouses and families from our club at the OI District Picnic that evening. There was a lot of delicious food and good entertainment. On Saturday and Sunday, a number of our members took part in the meals, workshops and business meeting. Nancy Foster was sworn in as Lt. Governor. Suzi Obermeier continues as District Secretary/Treasurer. She and Rod, then immediate Past Governor did a great job in seeing that everything ran smoothly.

Amy Schmidt told about her early childhood and how it affected her present occupation as a Meteorologist. She stated that as a small child she was deathly afraid of severe weather. The fear got so bad she was finally asked why she was so afraid. Amy replied that she was afraid that the storm might kill her whole family. She said that she was told that the best way to overcome the fear was to learn all she could about storms. She then checked books out of the library and read all she could about weather events. She then started plotting the path of the storms on her atlas. Although she grew up in Minnesota, she attended the University of Wisconsin and received a degree in Meteorology in 2008. After a summer of doing little and bartendering, she interviewed and landed a job with WIBW-TV in September. One of her reasons for applying for a job in Topeka is because Kansas has four seasons. She enjoys her work at the station preparing weather forecasts for TV and for other social media. Besides work, she participates in marathons speaks to groups and judges food contests. It was quite an interesting personal story that Amy presented.

Thanks to Leland Denton for providing information about Amy's presentation.
