Meeting of August 5, 2011

  Call to order by Mike Akulow, substituting for President Ron Brown who was on his way to Sturgis, SD, on a motorcycle.

There were no guests at the meeting. Birthdays recognized:  Monica Kastens on Aug. 2.

Business/announcements:  Upcoming Optimist District convention Aug 19-21. Rod Obermeier provided additional details. A collection was taken for a flower basket to be raffled at the convention from our club. No noon meeting on Friday, Aug 19, due to District Optimist evening picnic at Sunrise Optimist Clubhouse. Convention banquet is scheduled for Saturday evening when Nancy Foster will be sworn in as Lt Governor. 

 Health updates were given for Ted Heim, Clayton McMurray and Jim Shannon’s wife, Jean. Next board meeting is set for Aug.15.

A short joke was provided by Joe Patton.

Leland Denton introduced our speaker, Jim Hanni from AAA. Jim was accompanied by an associate from AAA.

Drawings: 50/50 won by Mike Akulow, Rob Telhorst was not present to win the club attendance award, and the Presidents award was won by Mike Akulow.

Meeting of August 12, 2011

Barry Feaker was our speaker and did a GREAT job. Said the homeless in Topeka was up and they are working hard to accommodate the increasing numbers. Presented the Law and Order award to Undersheriff Herman Jones. He was most appreciative.
